There are more than 130 historical markers scattered across Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, quietly sitting on street corners, tucked into neighborhoods, standing in front of houses most of us drive past without a second look. This is a project to slow down and actually read them and learn something.

My wife and I have made a habit of seeking these markers out, camera in hand, curiosity leading the way, and this site is where we’re documenting what we find: the marker text itself, the history behind it, in-person.
We started with Marker No. 1 — Ashland, Henry Clay’s estate, which, as it turns out, was only about five miles from our own front door. We’re working through the rest one marker at a time, and we’ll be adding new ones as we go.
Thanks for reading along.
